VIRGINIA -- A [dog] is shot after she allegedly kills a neighbor's rabbit. Snuggles, a young German Shepard mix, is said to have gotten loose Monday afternoon. Now, Chesterfield Police and Animal Control are investigating.
Snuggles is said to be doing fine after being shot twice in the leg.
Ashley Price is the one who fired the shots. "I fired one shot over there and one of the dogs ran off but the other dog was still not leaving."
Monday afternoon, she says her neighbor's two dogs tried to get her uncle's pet rabbits. One rabbit was killed.
Price insists, she didn't want to kill the dog and shooting it was a last resort in order to protect her family's beloved animals.
While Price is a self-professed animal lover, the rabbits belong to her mentally-disabled uncle.
Still, her neighbors want Price to pay their vet bill.
"I know it wasn't the dog's fault," Price said. "I feel bad about shooting it but I did what I thought was best."
NBC12 tried to speak to Snuggles' owners to confirm whether they want Price to pay the vet bill or if they intend to press charges but no one was home.
The rabbits owners say they don't owe a thing.
