11/15/12: Animal Hoarding in Fort Myers

FLORIDA -- Pictures taken by Lee County Animal Services tells the story of animal hoarding in Fort Myers.  Dozens of rabbits, 49 to be exact, roaming free in a one story home.

"We stepped in to give the owner of the rabbits assistance," said Andrea Rothwell from Lee County Animal Services.



The English Lop rabbits were brought to animal services and sterilized and examined. The rabbit's owner calling animal services after her rabbits wouldn't stop breeding.

"The conditions inside the home were unsanitary," said Rothwell.


Animal services saying the rabbits were in decent health and were given food and water but many displaying urine scalp indicating the rabbits were living in filth.

The rabbits owner would not answer any questions when Fox 4 reporter John Rupolo went to her home.


Animal control cited the woman for a number of offenses including cruelty to animals.
