Dog attacks a second time; stranger comes to the rescue

GEORGIA -- A dog with a history of aggression attacks a woman's dog as she is walking it.

Thankfully, a stranger comes to the to the rescue.

You can spot Bonnie Boyce and her dog Tucker walking through her neighborhood on almost any given morning. "He's got a great personality and extremely intelligent," Boyce said about her border collie mix.

The two were on their normal route when Boyce noticed another dog standing behind this fence. She crossed the road with Tucker to avoid antagonizing the other animal, but it was too late.

The pit bull squeezed through an opening of the fence.

"I mean blood was gushy out of his mouth during the incident. I screamed. I hollered," Boyce said.

Boyce said she could not get the other dog to release Tucker.

What happened next, she says, is nothing short of a miracle. "I think he was put there at the right time in the right place," Boyce said.

Jay Lyda trains police and military dogs for a living with Southern K9 Solutions. "Just instinct. I just put the truck in park and jumped out and got out of the truck and ran over," he said.

Lyda grabbed his dog training gear in the truck . Seconds later, he was able to get the other dog to release Tucker.

"You were a life saver. I don't know what to say except that you are a life saver," Boyce said to Lyda.

He is a little embarrassed by the attention. "I know she appreciates it. I'm glad i was there but I'm just an everyday person, who luckily trains dog," he said.

Tucker is experiencing complications due to the attack. He is being held at a local veterinarian clinic for an infection.

The dog that attacked Tucker does have a record of aggression. Animal control says this is the second time this year the pit bull has escaped and attacked another dog. The owner of the pit was cited for attacking Boyce's dog.

Almost any breed of dog show signs of aggression [says who?]. Animal control recommends not making eye contact with another dog while walking your pet. Stay calm if an attack does take place. Use pepper spray or stick to break up the dogs up or keep one off of you.

[I recommend a carry permit and a gun.]

Finally, if your dog is attacked by another animal make sure you document all vet bills and find out where the other dog lives.

While putting a link to his website, I looked around and saw this: a Boston Terrier(!) named Doodle, trained as a personal protection dog. That's awesome!
