NEW ZEALAND -- The dog who jumped a fence to attack a police dog on duty will be destroyed, and its Gate Pa owner ordered to keep his nose clean.
Raupurukamu Te-Rohia Brown, 26, whose dog attacked police dog Yoda was convicted of the crime and sentenced to come up if called upon in six months [good behaviour bond] in Tauranga District Court today. The man's pet is to be destroyed.
Te-Rohia Brown had planned to defend himself but instead pleaded guilty to being the owner of a dog that attacked a police dog.
Brown admitted his dog Zion attacked police dog Yoda as Senior Constable Kayne Cording and Yoda were tracking an offender in Gate Pa's Dunkirk St on July 20.
The 2-year-old crossbred Staffordshire bull terrier jumped the fence, crossed the road and lunged at Yoda, before grabbing it around the throat.
Yoda suffered minor injuries and returned to work within a week.
