COLORADO -- A man will be ticketed and his Rottweiler was impounded after it attacked another resident in a north Boulder neighborhood Wednesday afternoon, police said.
The victim, James Glab, was walking near his house in the 5700 block of North Orchard Creek Circle around 12:45 p.m. when he noticed three dogs running loose in the area, Boulder police spokeswoman Kim Kobel said.
Glab recognized the dogs as belonging to a neighbor -- whom police identified as Michael Roberts -- and went over to Roberts's house. Roberts was not home, so Glab told police he talked to a woman at the house, who went outside and called to the dogs.
When she did, Kobel said, one of the dogs -- a Rottweiler -- bit Glab in the upper arm. Roberts's father-in-law was able to wrap Glab's arm to stop the bleeding, and he was taken to Boulder Community Hospital for treatment.
Kobel said the victim's girlfriend initially told police dispatchers that Glab's arm had been severed after she and two other witnesses who stopped to help were unable to see under the wrap on his arm. But Kobel said that was not the case.
An employee at Boulder Community Hospital said Wednesday night that records indicate Glab was treated for his wounds in the emergency room and discharged.
Police said Roberts will be ticketed with unlawful ownership of a dangerous dog, a misdemeanor.
The dog -- which Kobel said does not appear to have a history of aggressive behavior -- was impounded and will be kept in quarantine for 10 days because it was deemed to have caused serious bodily injury.
After the quarantine, a judge will decide whether Roberts will get to keep the dog.
