Trial set in felony dog case

MICHIGAN -- A Tipton-area man was scheduled for trial on Jan. 30 after he waived arraignment Wednesday in Lenawee County Circuit Court on a charge of maintaining a dangerous animal causing injury.

Gary Richard Hierholzer, 42, is accused of allowing a dog to bite at least three people as they walked past his Coller Highway home in the past year.

Hierholzer was charged with a felony in September after a Lenawee County Sheriff's Department investigation of a June 15 attack on a woman. Previous dog bite incidents were reported last November and on June 12. Two of the three victims received hospital treatment for bite injuries.

An order to euthanize the Rottweiler - Husky mix was granted in district court last month.
