Three Attacking Pit Bulls Killed By Homeowner

PENNSYLVANIA -- A Raisinville Township man shot and killed three dogs after the animals attacked his wife and pets.

The man was visiting a neighbor when he received a frantic call around 2:30 p.m. Monday from his wife who said she was being attacked by pit bulls. The husband drove to his home, located in the 9000 block of Stewart Rd., and found his dog, a Labrador retriever, was being attacked by the pit bulls.

One of the biggest dogs had the retriever by the neck and pinned to the ground, according to Monroe County Sheriff’s Office reports.

The other three pit bulls were biting the dog in the back and legs. The man’s wife was near the driveway when he came home.

Shortly thereafter, the husband, who has a concealed pistol license, shot the dog biting his pet’s neck.

His wife then ran toward the house and one of the other dogs followed her. The man shot that dog as well. A third dog was still biting at the retriever, so the man shot that dog, too.

Three of the pit bulls died while the fourth dog ran away.

After shooting the dogs, the homeowner checked his other animals and found the four dogs had killed four chickens, a duck and one of the family’s pet cats.

Only one of the dogs had a collar and none of them had licenses, according to deputies.

The homeowner, 59, told Sgt. Jeff Kemp he has never seen the dogs before and does not know who they belong to.

The wife, 39, heard a commotion on the front porch while she was eating lunch and found the dogs on the porch and witnessed one of the dogs bite the cat and shake it around.

Soon, all four dogs were biting the animal and were “tearing it apart,” the report said. She tried to save the cat, but the dogs began jumping on her and scratching her legs and arms.

The woman sustained “severe” bruises and scratches on her legs and arms from the incident. The retriever was bitten around the neck and legs as well as puncture wounds. The animal was treated by a veterinarian.

The fourth dog was last seen running in the area of Doty and N. Custer Rd. The animal was smaller than the rest of the dogs and is brown in color.
