12/20/12: Hundreds of neglected animals seized

AUSTRALIA -- Inspectors carried out the major operation yesterday after reports there were a large number of animals at the property allegedly living in unhygienic conditions.

The 132 cats, rabbits and birds removed from the property have been taken into RSPCA care and many require immediate veterinary attention.

The location of the property cannot be revealed for legal reasons.

RSPCA chief executive David van Ooran said due to the huge influx of animals, RSPCA's Malaga headquarters has temporarily suspended its adoption and retail services.

"This appears to be a sad and unfortunate situation," he said.

"I want to pay tribute to the work of the RSPCA inspectors. Our inspectors worked all day and through the night to make sure the 132 animals that were located at the property were safe in RSPCA care.

"Our shelter staff also worked through the night to look after the animals and make them comfortable."
