TEXAS -- A police officer responding to a disturbance at a Schertz trailer park shot a dog three times after the animal bit him, officials said.
Schertz police Capt. Marc Bane said the Shar Pei-St. Bernard mix ran up to the officer while he was standing on the street in the 2000 block of Windy Falk about 8:30 a.m. Sunday and bit his holster before latching onto his leg.
The officer shot the dog in the front, leg and shoulder. Its owners were given the option of having it treated, but they opted to have Schertz Animal Services euthanize it.
This was the second time the animal has bitten a person, Bane said. The dog bit a 6-year-old child Oct. 24, and its owners were forced to quarantine the animal for 10 days, said Shanna Roman with Animal Services.
The child, a neighbor, wasn't critically injured. The animal wasn't found to have rabies, so it was released to its owners.
