Lansdale man charged with animal cruelty; police say man kicked, 'stomped' cat

PENNSYLVANIA -- Animal cruelty charges have been filed against a Lansdale man in connection with an incident that left a cat injured earlier this month, according to Lansdale police.

Lansdale police responded to the 800 block of Walnut Street for a report of a disturbance around 5:45 p.m., Dec. 4. A resident and witness told police that they were on the sidewalk speaking to a neighbor, identified as Mieczyslain Zwolinski, 60, also of the 800 block of Walnut Street, when they heard Zwolinski’s dog a few houses down.

When they reached Zwolinski’s residence, they reportedly saw a cat inside his yard. The neighbor said Zwolinski began to yell expletives and kicked the cat off the ground, according to police.

The neighbor then watched as Zwolinski allegedly “stomped” the cat at least six times as the cat tried to flee. The neighbor told police they told Zwolinski to stop but that Zwolinski reportedly kept asking the witness if the cat belonged to that individual.

The owner of the cat, another nearby resident, was contacted and took the injured cat to a veterinarian for treatment, according to police. The cat was treated for pain to the ribs and a bleeding cut to its mouth, police said.

Charges of cruelty to animals have been filed against Zwolinski, who will be summoned to court at a later date before District Justice Harold Borek of Lansdale.
