"Beware of dog" signs were posted all along the driveway, but they weren't enough to stop a deadly dog attack. Authorities say a man was mauled to death in the driveway of this home in Selma. They believe four pit bulls are to blame.
Neighbor Blake Anderson says, "I definitely wasn't shocked. I'm sorry, but I wasn't surprised just because it's only a matter of time when you have vicious, uncontrollable dogs like that."
The attack happened Tuesday night. Detectives say a woman pulled into her driveway and found a man lying on the ground. The pit bulls were found inside a home next door, with blood on them.
They were taken away, along with six pit bull puppies and two other dogs.
"The owner of the animals was cooperative. He did sign all the animals over to Liberty Animal Control Services, where they will not be returned to the owner," says Liberty Animal Control Services director Daniel Bailey.
We tried to speak with the owner, but no one answered the door. A next door neighbor tells us the dogs were always roaming around.
"They come in our front yard and will come in our driveway. I couldn't even get out of my car one time. There were like four of them, so pretty ridiculous," says Anderson.
Anderson says this isn't the first time the pit bulls attacked. About a month ago, they killed his dog. He believes the owner should be held responsible.
"There is a county ordinance the animal can't be running in the yards. It needs to be in your immediate control," says Bailey.
Authorities could not yet confirm if the owner of the dogs will face any charges. They are still waiting on autopsy results to reveal the exact cause of death.
Liberty Animal Control Services says it had not received any calls about these pit bulls prior to Tuesday's attack.
