Mum of boy attacked by dog says 'the dog went crazy'

UNITED KINGDOM -- Lochlan Johns deserves something special from Santa Claus this Christmas.

The six-year-old Buddina boy spent a night recovering in Nambour General Hospital after being mauled and pulled underwater by a Rottweiler cross.

And all the youngster was doing was going to the beach with his mum and baby sister.

Lochlan sustained multiple deep puncture wounds to the back of his neck and top of his head, as well as bruises to his forehead and lip.

They mark where the dog took him in its mouth, as he sat in the shallows. It pushed his head under the water.

Lying in his hospital bed yesterday, he tightly squeezed on the blue teddy given to him by his father's workplace.

His mother, Romana, told the Daily of her horror as her son was attacked, and her younger daughter was threatened.

"I freaked out when it happened," she said.

"We'd just arrived at the beach - we go down there every afternoon.  When Lochlan ran into the water, this dog ran down to get him. It went crazy."

Mrs Johns said she believed the dog belonged to a woman who was walking three at once, all off-leash.

"I'd never seen this woman or the dogs before," she said.

Mrs Johns said after she got the rottweiler cross off Lochlan, it turned its attention to her youngest, one-year-old Ayva, who was sitting on her own on the sand.

"It went for her, but she was lucky. She has a bruise on her arm," she said.

After being fended off Ayva, the dog once again turned its attention to Lochlan, before finally being brought under control by the woman walking them.

"I just grabbed my kids after it all. It could have been so much worse," Mrs Johns said.

Mrs Johns said the dog walker helped to contain the dog, and was the one to ring 000 to report the attack.

Sunshine Coast Council yesterday confirmed it was investigating the incident.

The attack was believed to have occurred just north of a designated off-leash area, meaning the dogs should have been leashed.
