Oklahoma man arrested for cruelty after kicking dog to death

OKLAHOMA --  A man is facing animal cruelty charges after police said he kicked his girlfriend's dog to death.

Whitney L. Stone, 26, told police she went to the store Dec. 1 around 8:40 p.m., leaving her boyfriend, 25-year-old Levi M. Raper, in her apartment in the 7000 block of West Britton Road. She said that when she returned she found her dog, a brown schnauzer-terrier mix, named Max, dead.

Raper told her the dog defecated on the floor, according to police. He said he attempted to rub the dog's nose in it when the dog, snapped at him, Stone told officers. Raper said he kicked the dog "a couple of times" and then says it went to the corner and died, according to a police report.

The dog weighed between 15 and 24 pounds.

When Raper was taken into custody, police said he threatened to harm himself. He was taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries he inflicted on himself while sitting in the back of the police car, according to officers.

Police said he was then booked into the Oklahoma County Jail on charges of animal cruelty.
