AUSTRALIA -- A six year-old boy was hospitalised after being bitten by a pet dog at Goodna on Monday.
The boy was playing in the backyard of a house in Hillier St about 5.30pm when the staffy-cross attacked him, leaving puncture wounds in his arm.
He was taken to the Mater Hospital, where the wounds were treated. No stiches were required and the boy left hospital early Tuesday.
Ipswich City Council officers later seized the dog and it was being held at the pound.
It later emerged that the dog had bitten the boy before.
Council health and regulation committee chairman Andrew Antoniolli said the incident should serve as a reminder for parents to supervise small children around pets.
"A lot of the attacks we have seen on children are happening while the dog is inside its own yard," Cr Antoniolli said.
"As dog owners we really do need to be cautious, particularly with children who aren't part of the family."
A decision was yet to be made on whether or not to put the dog down. A thorough investigation would be done first, he said.
