GEORGIA -- An Atlanta man has been charged with two counts of animal cruelty after two emaciated donkeys were found on his property in Clarkston.
On Tuesday afternoon, police officers with DeKalb County Animal Services and Enforcement got a report of animal mistreatment from a concerned citizen.
The report said that there were two donkeys that weren't being properly cared for at the property at 3489 West Hill St.
When officers arrived at the property, they found the donkeys, John and Jenny, both extremely emaciated, in a fenced-in area, police said.
One of the animals was lying down and officers thought it was dead. However, when they approached it, it was able to lift his head, according to police.
Both animals were assessed by a veterinarian on the property and rescued.
While officers were at the property, the property owner, 40-year-old Shin Chieh Lin, arrived.
Warrants charging Lin with two counts of animal cruelty were then issued, police said.
After the donkeys were rescued, both began eating and will be taken to the Georgia Equine Rescue where they can recover.
