Dog on the loose bites girl, 12, police officer

OHIO -- A loose dog bit a 12-year-old girl and then a police officer in a southwest Canton neighborhood Thursday evening.

Canton police reports said the dog bit the child as she walked in the 600 block of Union Avenue SW between 6:30 and 6:46 p.m. Thursday. The child lives in the 700 block of Union.

She was taken to Aultman Hospital to be treated for her injuries, the reports said.

The reports also said the dog bit Officer Judi Solly on both legs as she assisted the Stark County Dog Warden in retrieving the animal.

“They were trying to corral the dog and it bit her,” said Capt. David Kurzinsky, who heads the police department’s Patrol Division. He said Solly was already back on the job.

The dog warden’s office was able to locate the dog, which was a Chow and Shar-Pei mixed breed, and the dog is back with its owner, said Tessa Neville, secretary at the dog warden’s office.

Neville could release no more details, saying the incident is under investigation.
