SOUTH CAROLINA -- A 65-year old woman is dead after the Greenwood County Coroner says she was attacked by a dog.
The coroner says Betty Ann Chapman Todd died after she was bitten at a home on East Grumling Road in Hodges Tuesday night.
The Greenwood County Sheriff's Office says Todd was babysitting a 17-month old child at the home while the parents went out to dinner. Deputies were called to the home just after 8:00 p.m.
The GCSO incident report says deputies saw what they believe was a pit bull with blood on its body when they arrived. The dog became aggressive with deputies, but the homeowners arrived at the scene and secured the dog in a back room.
Todd was found on the floor of the living room with what appeared to be dog bites to her neck, head and face. Emergency medical crews couldn't revive her.
The homeowners told deputies another daughter called them about the attack and took other family members to a neighbor's home to call 911.
The homeowners say the victim had been to the house several times and had been around the dog which had shown no signs of aggressiveness towards her.
The dog was taken by an animal control officer as the investigation continues.
The Greenwood County Sheriff's Office says they do not anticipate any charges in this case.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 am for Betty Anne Chapman Todd at the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel on 1425 Montague Avenue in Greenwood with Reverend Terry Carpenter officiating.
