NORTH CAROLINA -- Gastonia man faces charges after being accused of not providing his two dogs, a Chihuahua mix and a lab mix, with water, food and shelter.
David Allen Swayney Sr., 49, of 2840 Beaty Road, Gastonia, is charged with two counts of cruelty to animals, two counts of failing to display a pet license tag and two counts of failure to have the dogs vaccinated for rabies.
He was booked into the Gaston County Jail on Thursday and released after posting a $3,000 secured bond.
Swayney’s Chihuahua had a broken leg that went untreated for a year and a half. This caused the dog to have “severe unnecessary pain,” according to a warrant affidavit.
His lab dog was also reportedly in need to veterinary care for large sores on its ears, according to the affidavit.
Gaston County Animal Control officials investigated the case.
