Justin Hall, 23, of 2404 Van Buren Ave., was charged with one count of animal cruelty, a second-degree misdemeanor. Hall will be sentenced Jan. 30 in Clark County Municipal Court.
The charge stems from an incident at his home on Oct. 31.
According to Springfield police, a woman called them after finding blood all over the kitchen and her husband, Hall, missing, as well as their kitten, Pluto. She followed a blood trail outside and found the kitten wrapped in a T-shirt, badly hurt.
The Clark County Humane Society took the animal to a vet, where it was discovered she had a concussion, as well as cuts and bruises, Executive Director James Straley said.
Pluto recovered from her injuries and was left in the care of the humane society until the outcome of Hall’s case was determined. In January, Hall changed his plea to guilty.
Kathy O’Connor, of the Clark County Humane Society, holds a tiny kitten that was nearly beat to death when it was 10-weeks-old. |
Straley said he then took legal possession of the kitten, and Pluto has been placed in a new, permanent home.
“We were able to find her a safe, happy home right away,” he said. “She’s not with her original owners.”
