Memphis Animal Control ignores calls to help dog

TENNESSEE -- A dog was rescued from freezing conditions Wednesday night after an Action News 5 viewer reported a dog left alone for one week, tied to a tree.

The woman who reported the dog said she contacted Memphis Animal Services several times but never received a response.

Action News 5 called city officials and sent a photo via Twitter to the Humane Society of Memphis and Shelby County.

Within the hour, the dog was rescued. Workers at the Humane Society named him Jasper.

Jasper was treated for hypothermia, shock, and neck injuries from an embedded collar. Veterinarians do not believe he would have lived to see another day had he not been rescued when he was.
