USA -- What would you do if you knew your pet was going to die? One owner decided to give his dog one last awesome meal before saying goodbye.
Reddit user Nikolaoss posted the story and video of his roommate's boxer, Lennox, as he enjoyed his last meal.
Lennox scarfed down a meal anyone would be jealous of - bacon, turkey, sausage, cheese bread, rice and salad - after weakly limping over to enjoy the treat.
Nikolaoss said Lennox had severe cancer and arthritis. The boxer already had undergone surgery for a tumor in his ear, but another, larger growth had taken over his left shoulder, making it difficult for Lennox to move.
According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, certain breeds of dogs are more likely to develop cancer, and unfortunately for Lennox, that includes boxers. Other prone breeds are Boston terriers and golden retrievers, along with large breeds like great Danes.
The ASPCA said common treatments include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation and immunotherapy. But some owners opt for no treatment at all because it can be costly, time consuming or the disease is incurable. They said each dog's case is unique, and should be evaluated by a veterinarian.
However, they do advise owners to manage cancer with "palliative care," which means preventing suffering. That includes pain relief, loving care and good nutrition - or in Lennox's case, a delicious meal.
Despite the sadness of the event, Nikolaoss wrote it wasn't a time for grieving.
"This post isn't meant to be sad in any way. He lived like an absolute boss all his life! And the meal reflects that!"
Lennox passed away at 3:45 p.m. on Jan. 23.
