Pit bull shot and killed after attacking officer

FLORIDA -- Police said they were forced to fire at a pet pit bull in Fort Lauderdale.

Officers said they were looking for some burglars along Northwest 15th Street and 8th Avenue, when a pit bull attacked a K-9 officer.

"I don't know, with all the commotion that went on, my dog got loose," said Tony Placil, the dog's owner. Police then fired at the pit bull.

The shooting left Placil in a state of disbelief. "I just got called and was told my dog has been shot five times," he said. "I'm like, 'Five times? He should've been tranquilized.' They killed my dog."

Placil confirmed that he wasn't home at the time of the incident.
