Officials say Alan Ball was ordered to turn the dog over to an animal shelter in Babylon within 48 hours or else face contempt charges.
The dog, named Muscles, is accused of attacking a Babylon woman and at least two other people.
Ball told the judge he had given the dog to someone at a Queens junkyard, but the judge said that was not good enough.
One of the alleged victims, Yvonne Fleming, says Muscles attacked her as she walked through the neighborhood. She says she had to get stitches and her wound got infected, landing her in the hospital for two days.
A hearing to determine whether Muscles is dangerous and should be euthanized will be held next Friday to give Ball enough time to retain an attorney.
