Boy speaks about pit bull attack

FLORIDA -- A young boy is recuperating from his wounds after he was attacked by a pit bull while visiting his grandmother.

The pit bull that viciously attacked Stanley Jean-Baptiste lived up to its name: Lucifer. The bog bit the 8-year-old in the head, requiring him to get 15 stitches. He was also left with four bite wounds on his left thigh.

"All of a sudden the dog came out, and I got up and ran," said Stanley. "Then I tripped over the chair. Then it grabbed my face and was biting me."

The incident occurred outside a Pompano Beach home while at least six adults males watched the attack and did not offer any help. "It was only one guy that I can recall that was trying to help me get the dog off my baby, everyone else was on top of the car and didn't help," said Stanley's mother, Fatimah Young.

Stanley was visiting his grandmother, who lives next door, when the dog attacked him.

Animal control investigated and found the dog living without shelter and had not had rabies shots.

The owner now has to pay $1,050 in fines. "Right now, it's being quarantined for 10 days," said City of Pompano Beach spokesperson Sandra King. "After 10 days, the owner had agreed to turn the dog over to animal control, where the animal will be put down."

No one at the owner's home has admitted to owning the pit bull.
