FLORIDA --A 65-year-old Conway woman is recovering from wounds she suffered during a weekend attack by her dog, who police later shot to death, according to a police report.
An officer went to the woman’s house around 6:30 p.m. Sunday to 1810 Elm St., and found her on her back and bleeding from several wounds after being attacked by her Rottweiler, police said.
Police said the dog appeared to weigh 125 to 200 pounds and was laying a few feet from the woman when an officer arrived.
The officer wrote in his report that the woman told him that the dog would attack him entered the fenced in yard, and she asked him to shoot the dog, according to the report. The officer surveyed the area, then retrieved his shotgun and notified dispatchers that he was entering the yard. He asked dispatchers to call a supervisor, according to the report.
When the officer entered the yard the dog stood up as if to attack, according to the incident report, and the officer shot it. The officer wrote that he shot the dog a second time after it tried to get back up.
The victim told the officer that he needed to “make sure” and to shoot the dog again, so the officer shot the dog again and noted it was dead, according to the report.
The woman was taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Hospital officials told police the victim had been treated there previously for being bitten by the dog, according to the report. The dog was taken to the Horry County Animal Shelter to be examined.
The woman was taken into surgery for her wounds, but the report did not list other details about her injuries.
