TEXAS -- An El Paso police detective shot and killed a pit bull that charged at him Tuesday on a street in the Central area, a police spokesman said.
The detective was approaching his car when he was charged by a pit bull that appeared to be a stray, said Officer Javier Sambrano, a police spokesman. The dog was killed. The detective was not hurt.
The shooting occurred about 3:30 p.m. on Gateway East at San Marcial Street while the detective was following up on an investigation. The detective is from the Central Regional Command.
The incident is under investigation by the Police Department's Shooting Review Team.
