Family dog attacks owners

NEW YORK -- An Orleans County man was hospitalized Tuesday night after he was bitten by his own dog.

Brian J. Adams, 30, of Ridgeway was bitten in the face and arm while he was arguing with his wife in their home, about 10:20 p.m., according to Orleans County sheriff’s deputies. He was taken to Erie County Medical Center where he was treated and released early Wednesday.

Adams was attacked by the family dog, a 2 1/2-year-old male pit bull terrier while arguing with his wife Kristi L. Adams, 38, deputies said. She suffered several bite wounds to her forearm as she tried to get the dog off her husband, deputies said.

She refused medical treatment at the scene, deputies said.

The couple’s 11-year-old daughter was home when the incident occurred, but was not involved. She called 911 for help, deputies said.

Orleans County Animal Control seized the dog, which is being held at the county’s animal shelter. Kristi Adams told police that the dog was not licensed but was vaccinated.

Deputies continue to investigate the incident.
