Governor asks for briefing in case of couple charged for nursing injured deer

INDIANA -- Governor Mike Pence is getting involved after a couple nursed an injured deer to heath only to face criminal charges.

Jeff Counceller and his wife Jennifer are facing possible jail time after finding and caring for a severely injured baby deer they named Dani a few months ago.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources contacted the couple and told them they needed a permit to keep the doe.

Their permit request was turned down and Indiana DNR said they had to [kill] Dani.

Dani vanished on the day DNR planned to euthanize her.

Governor Pence said it appears conservation officers acted appropriately, but is asking DNR for a briefing on the case.
