TENNESSEE -- Jackson Police said they had to shoot a pit bull on the University of Memphis Lambuth campus Saturday morning, because it was a threat to the public's safety.

Officers said they were dispatched to Burkett Street, where they found a pit bull attacking another dog.

Police said they tried to secure the pit bull before it ran onto the campus, but were unable to control it.
