Police charge man for shooting dogs

IOWA -- A Sioux City man faces charges after police say he shot and killed two of his dogs.

51-year-old Jon Holloway is charged with reckless use of a firearm and discharging a firearm in the city limits. He also faced two counts of animal cruelty, but those charges were dismissed.

Police say it happened at 1318 South Cornelia Tuesday afternoon.

According to court documents, Holloway ordered the two muzzled dogs into separate kennels and then shot them with a 17-caliber rifle.

Documents show Holloway shot one dog twice, in the face and in the back. The other dog, according to documents, was shot once in the head and died sometime later in the dog house.

Police say Holloway and his sister had been arguing about the dogs. They say Holloway believed they had become increasingly aggressive. The sister, however, felt the dogs just needed to be neutered.

Trial is set for April 24th.
