NEW MEXICO -- Animal welfare officials say one dog was shot after several dogs attacked a smaller dog Friday morning in Albuquerque.
Animal welfare officials say APD officers shot and killed one of the dogs near where the dog was attacked at 1610 Edith SE, near Broadway and Avenida Cesar Chavez.
According to an APD spokesman, officers were dispatched to 1618 Edith SE in reference to a dog being attacked by two large dogs.
An officer arrived on scene and did observe a small dog being attacked by two aggressive larger dogs. In a news release, police said the dogs appeared to be of the pit-bull breed.
The officer was unable to stop the attack through physical means and had to discharge his weapon, and one of the attacking dogs was killed.
