IOWA -- Police are searching for a loose dog that bit a man who was trying to protect his pet from the stray.
Police said the victim was walking his dog at about 3:30 p.m. Sunday, March 24, 2013 in the 2400 block of Crestview Drive when they encountered a loose dog he had not seen before.
The man said the loose dog ran toward his dog, so he put himself between the two animals to prevent his dog from being attacked.
The loose dog reportedly bit the man in the face, causing cuts and puncture injuries to his nose. The man fought off the dog and it ran away.
The dog remained at large. It was described as a black or brown short-haired dog that weighs 75 to 80 pounds and had no collar. “It appeared to be a Rottweiler or Pit Bull mix,” according to police.
Police say they need to confirm whether the dog is up-to-date on its vaccinations. Anyone with information about the identification or location of the reported stray is asked to contact Bettendorf Police at (563) 344-4015 and press 9.
