CANADA -- A Delta Police officer is recovering after a pit bull attack Saturday night.
It happened as two officers were conducting routine patrols on Chester Road just off Cliveden Avenue at around 10:30 p.m.
Delta Police acting Staff Sergeant Dan McLean says a pit bull charged from a houseboat, biting one officer on the hand.
McLean says one of the officers shot and killed the pit bull, but not before it did some damage.
“The officer was treated at a local hospital and is recovering from a bite requiring numerous stitches, and the investigation into the matter is ongoing.”
McLean says they’re unsure why the dog attacked the officer.
A police dog was also injured, but there’s no word on its condition.
