Oklahoma: April Martin, 34, accused of threatening a woman and her infant with knives siccing her pit bull on them

OKLAHOMA -- An Oklahoma City woman was jailed after she threatened a mother and her baby with knives and a pit bull terrier, police reported Tuesday.

April Lynn Martin, 34, was arrested Monday on complaints of assault and battery, and assault and battery with a deadly weapon.

Police were called about 3:05 p.m. Monday to Martin's house at 1931 NW 30. They found Deneisha R. Lowery, 25, Lowery's 1-year-old baby and Lowery's mother nearby at NW 30 and Pennsylvania Avenue, according to the police report.

Lowery told police her purse was missing after she and Martin went to the mall the day before.

When she went to Martin's home with her mother and her baby to see if she left her purse there, Martin became “crazy” and came toward her with two long knives while she was holding her baby, according to the report.

Lowery told police she asked Martin, “Are you going to stab me while I'm holding my baby?” and Martin replied, “(Expletive), I'll stab you both.”

As Lowery ran to the car to get away, Martin's pit bull terrier ran toward the vehicle. Lowery told police she thought Martin sent the dog to attack them.

Lowery's mother, Glenda Jean Madewell, 55, said she was trying to get in the vehicle when she saw the dog and grabbed a stun gun from the car, according to the report.

Madewell activated the stun gun and told Martin to get her dog. Madewell, Lowery and the baby drove away and called police.

Martin told police she was defending herself with a knife against Lowery, who had “run up on her.”

Martin was taken to the Oklahoma County jail. Her bail was set at $5,000.
