Man charged with killing dog

ALABAMA -- Anniston police charged a man Sunday morning with beating his dog to death.

Wilson Madison Allen Jr., 45, of Anniston, allegedly used his fists to kill his dog last Thursday at a home on the 2600 block of Simpson Street, Sgt. Chris Sparks said.

Sparks was unsure of the dog’s breed. Police originally suspected a woman, but through their investigation discovered she was the homeowner and not involved in the incident, Sparks said.

The Calhoun County Animal Control Center was also involved in the investigation.

Allen was charged with first-degree cruelty to a dog, a felony, Sparks said.

Allen paid his $10,000 bond and was released from the Anniston City Jail Sunday, Sparks said. A court date is scheduled for April 15.
