AUSTRALIA -- A Caboolture father fears his family’s dog may have been killed by the same Rottweiler that attacked two young children on Sunday.
Adam Leishman awoke on Sunday to discover his Jack Russell dead from severe injuries in their yard on Last Post Road about 8.30am.
Within an hour, two young children were severely bitten by a Rottweiler outside their home about 100 metres away.
Georgia Young, 7, and Michael Goodwin, 5, were bitten in Ann-Maree Drive, Caboolture, about 9.15am. The young children were checking the letter box when the Rottweiler attacked.
Michael, who was attacked first, suffered deep bites to his arm and back. It’s believed he may have also suffered a punctured lung.
Georgia was bitten on the face.
The pair was taken by ambulance to the Royal Children’s Hospital, both in a stable condition.
Upon hearing news of the attack, Mr Leishman checked his surveillance footage.
‘‘The footage shows that about 4am on Sunday, two black dogs walked into the same area as my dog ... then it all sort of hit me,’’ he said.
‘‘It would just be a very strong coincidence that two events from two different dogs occurred within 100 metres of each other on the same day.’’
Mr Leishman has notified the Moreton Bay Regional Council of the suspected attack via its website.
‘‘I don’t want my kids to be the next ones. I want to make sure that the dog responsible is dealt with,’’ he said.
The Rottweiler, responsible for biting the children, was reportedly roaming the streets at the time of the attack.
A Moreton Bay Regional Council spokesman said the the dog was caught shortly after the incident, and was in the custody of the council.
The council’s community response officers are investigating the incident.
