ALABAMA -- Court documents filed in Madison County District Court show a 19-year-old Harvest man has been charged with killing a dog with an axe and a tomahawk.
According to court documents, 19-year-old Brandon James Powell is charged with first degree cruelty to dogs or cats. The documents show Powell was arrested at his Wood Lane house on March 19th.
Authorities said they found multiple cats dead and have taken a juvenile into custody on animal cruelty charges as well.
The documents only say Powell used an axe and a tomahawk in the attack. The documents show the attack happened on or about February 28, 2013. However, the court records do not show who owned the animal.
Several dogs were on the property Friday, and the people living inside the house refused to comment on the charges.
Powell's bond is set at $5,000. He has a court ordered felony examination scheduled for April 10th. First degree cruelty to dogs or cats is a class "C" felony.
