Two pit bull attacks in Apple Valley

CALIFORNIA -- Two separate pit bull attacks were reported in one day, injuring two women and one child, according to San Bernardino County Sheriff's and Town of Apple Valley officials.

On Tuesday at 4:43 p.m., deputies from the sheriff’s Apple Valley Station responded to a report of a dog attack in the 12200 block of Waynoka Road, just north of Bear Valley Road, according to sheriff’s spokeswoman Jodi Miller.

A mother and child suffered minor injuries after they were attacked by two pit bulls, Miller said Thursday.

Arriving deputies were told that a 7-year-old girl had suffered minor injuries to her head and hands when two pit bulls attacked her. Deputies discovered that the child’s mother was also attacked and suffered injuries to her head and hands as she attempted to intervene, Miller said.

A sheriff’s report said the injured family members were not taken to a hospital.

Apple Valley Animal Control officials took custody of the dogs, Miller said.

Earlier, in an unrelated incident at approximately 12:20 p.m., town animal services were called to assist sheriff’s deputies with a report of a dog bite in the 20000 block of Rambling Road, according to a town of Apple Valley report.

The report said the unidentified victim was the owner of the unlicensed and unneutered male pit bull. The attack caused injuries to the victim’s left forearm.

The owner of the dog sought medical treatment after the incident and the dog was quarantined at the town’s animal shelter, the report said.

A neighbor reported seeing an woman being loaded into an ambulance as animal control took custody of two pit bulls at the residence.
