Iowa: Four-year-old child attacked by pit bull; had to be taken by helicopter to hospital

IOWA -- A 4-year-old was airlifted to a Des Moines hospital after being attacked by a dog in Prairie City.

At 2:01 p.m. today, police and paramedics were dispatched to 300 South Marshall Street in Prairie City for a child who had been attacked by a dog, an American Staffordshire Pit Bull Terrier.

Upon arrival, a 4-year-old female was transported by air ambulance to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Prairie City Police were assisted by officers from the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office and Monroe Police Department.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing at this time.
