Benefit Cookout For Dog Attack Victim

FLORIDA -- Friends of the 7-year-old boy who was mauled by two pit bull mixes are trying to help raise money to cover the boy’s medical costs.

They’re holding a benefit cookout for Tyler Jett on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Dam Bait Shop on Hwy 2321, across from the Deerpoint Lake dam park.

Jett was badly injured Tuesday afternoon in the attack at his home on Kelly Court in Callaway. Jett was taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Pensacola, where he is listed in serious condition at the time of this story.

The Bay County Sheriff’s Office arrested the owner of the dogs, 21 year old Edward Daniels II, yesterday and charged him with tampering with evidence. They believe Daniels washed blood off the face and paws of one of the dogs when he realized it was involved in the attack. Daniels claims he thought it was the blood from another animal.

Daniels was in court today for his first appearance. The judge set his bond at $15,000. As for the two dogs, they will be euthanized, unless Daniels requests a hearing with Bay County Animal Control.

If you can't make it to the cookout on Saturday, but want to help Tyler's family with the medical bills, you can make a donation to the Tyler Jett benefit Account at any Hancock Bank.
