SOUTH CAROLINA -- A woman in her 70s was attacked by a dog Thursday night in Anderson, police said.
Lt. Tony Tilley of the Anderson Police Department said the woman was bitten on the leg outside a home on West Fredericks Street. She was taken to AnMed Health Medical Center as a precautionary measure. Tilley said her injuries were not life-threatening ones.
The woman’s identity was not disclosed.
Tilley said the woman was caring for her son’s dog while he was away. It’s not clear what happened immediately before the attack.
Tilley said police officers shot and killed the dog.
“The dog had to be put down,” Tilley said. “They were forced to shoot him because he was acting aggressively.”
Tilley said he didn’t know anything about the dog’s history or its size. He said police officers only knew that it was a “mixed-breed dog” and not a pit bull.
