Man pleads guilty in animal cruelty case

NEW MEXICO -- A south valley man involved in an animal cruelty case pleaded guilty Monday.

Last year, Pedro Aguirre was arrested after sheriff's deputies found five emaciated horses on his property.

The animals were starved and their hooves were overgrown.

One even had a broken and bleeding leg.

Deputies also removed three dogs that were in bad shape, but not as bad as the horses.

Aguirre claimed he couldn't afford to care for the animals.

He was sentenced Monday to supervised probation and can't own any animals.

Aguirre will also have to attend animal cruelty classes.
