Monaca residents want action on vicious dog

PENNSYLVANIA -- Monaca residents expressed frustration about a persistent dog problem during borough council’s meeting Tuesday night.

Vitale Sabatucci of 991 Clearview Drive told council members that his neighbor’s dog has been a constant, dangerous problem for more than a year, but said he’s frustrated by the lack of action.

“No one has ever contacted me after my initial report,” he told the council members.

His wife, Brenda, added, “The situation is out of hand, and nothing is being done about it.”

The dog, which Sabatucci and several council members said is a pit bull, has gotten loose on multiple occasions and bitten several people, Sabatucci said.

Police on Wednesday identified the dog owner as Raelene C. Huskins of 1265 S. Elm St. and said she has been cited twice for incidents involving her dog.

Councilman Tom Karczewski said council is doing what it can, but the majority of the issue lies in the hands of police. Council President Jeff McKay said that a list of complaints is being compiled to give to the magistrate.

“We are pursuing all avenues that are open to us,” Karczewski said.

Sabatucci and Karczewski both said that residents in the area have begun arming themselves when they go outside for fear of the dog, a measure that both men said shows the extent of the problem.

Sabatucci and his wife said they intend to pursue the matter until it’s settled.

“When this dog finally takes a life, whether human or pet, it will be too late to take action,” he said.
