Pets found living in filthy conditions

FLORIDA -- A Bradford County woman is in jail right now, facing eleven felony counts of animal cruelty.

Deputies found the animals a couple of weeks ago, while they were out posting a sexual predator sign in the neighborhood.

They say they gave Jeanette Hars a chance to take care of her pets.  But when they came back Thursday, they found even more dogs confined in a shed.

In all, deputies pulled 11 dogs, 10 cats and a rabbit from Hars' small, dilapidated home.  They say it appears the woman is a hoarder.

"When our officers were making that comment to her that they felt like she was a hoarder, she adamantly denied that she was a hoarder, but that she was collector," said Captain Brad Smith with the Bradford County Sheriff's Office.

Danielle Leland considers Hars' her mom.  She described the inside the home as horrid.  "The floor is covered with feces," said Leland.  "The bed where she slept was covered in feces."

She says Hars had good intentions for the animals, but that her hoard quickly became more than she could manage.  "She did try her best to take care of them," said Leland.  "I'm sad to see her in jail, but glad, glad for the animals that they can get the help they need and the love that they so deserve."

The animals that can be saved will be put up for adoption.

Hars is being held in the Bradford County Jail on $11,000 bond.
