UNITED KINGDOM -- A dachshund was left requiring surgery after it was attacked by another dog passing the Spar shop in Hotwell Road, Bristol last month.
The incident happened at 5pm on Wednesday March 27. The dachshund, a three-year-old dog called Fifi, was on a lead and out for a walk with its carer.
As the dog walked past Spar another dog, which was sat outside the shop, attacked Fifi causing a severe shoulder wound to her left shoulder. Fifi's carer also received three puncture wounds to a thumb as she tried to separate the animals.
The owner of the attack dog, which is described as a staffie-type dog, did not leave his details and was last seen walking off in the direction of Hope Chapel Hill.
The incident has been reported to police and they are conducting enquiries to identify the dog owner. He is described as a white man, in his mid-30s, of average height, a thin and wiry build and with tidy, collar-length dark hair. At the time of the incident he was wearing a khaki green coat.
PC Nick Shaw, who is investigating the incident, said: "This was a vicious attack which left a poor dog requiring surgery. My concern is that had it been a young child walking past the outcome could have been just as bad or perhaps even more severe.
"We believe the man is local to the area and I would appeal to anyone who thinks they know who it might be to contact us straight away."
