Toddler attacked by family's pit bull

RHODE ISLAND --  A 2-year-old boy was taken to the hospital after police say his family’s pet pit bull attacked him.

According to Deputy Chief Daniel Parrillo of the Johnston Police Department, the child was pulling on a blanket that the dog was laying on when the pit bull attacked him.

The toddler has puncture wounds to his cheek and nose and scratches on his face, but the injuries are non-life threatening.

North Providence Animal Control took the dog, which is being held at the shelter for a 15 day quarantine period.

The child’s parents were home at the time of the incident, and police do not believe there is a pattern of violence with the dog.

There are no laws against having a pit bull in Johnston.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
