WASHINGTON -- A distraught mother duck next to a storm drain caught the attention of Debbie Friend, Paul Conrad and other residents of the Lakes neighborhood around noon on Friday, May 10.
All 13 of the duck's newly hatched ducklings had fallen down the storm drain and were trapped.
Two Mercer Island firefighters assisted the residents in rescuing the ducklings out of the drain. The ducklings were released back to their mother in the northernmost lake of the neighborhood.
