CALIFORNIA -- A 15-year-old girl was attacked by a pit bull while she was walking her dog in her Corona neighborhood, police said.
Police said Alex Cuevas and her dog, Coco, were walking near Morales Way and Honors Lane on Friday afternoon when the loose pit bull went after Coco. Cuevas said she was hurt trying to save her dog.
The pit bull bit Cuevas' arms and her right ear. She was treated at the scene and taken to a local hospital for further treatment.
The girl's dog sustained a fang puncture to her left eye. She may be blind in that eye.
A neighbor with a shovel intervened. Cuevas said the attack could have been worse.
"I saw some neighbor swinging around a shovel trying to get the dog away, hollering," Cuevas said. "I woke up and they're pouring water in my ear and calling 911."
The 2-year-old pit bull, named Mr. Pickles, was located nearby and picked up by Animal Control.
Police said the pit bull had escaped from his yard. Its owners did not have proof of vaccination and police said the dog was unlicensed.
Anyone with information was asked to call Corona police at (951) 736-2330.
