Kingston woman charged with animal cruelty for allegedly keeping pit bulls caged in sealed truck

NEW YORK -- A city woman is facing animal cruelty charges for allegedly keeping four pit bulls in cages in the back of a sealed U-Haul truck overnight without food or water, according to Kingston police.


Shalamar D. Cardona, 32, of 144 Cedar St., was arrested by police and the city dog control officer at 1:45 p.m. Thursday and charged a misdemeanor counts of cruelty to animals and four counts of having an unlicensed dog, a city ordinance violation.

Police said Cardona had the four dogs in cages of two each and made no food or water available to them overnight.

The dogs are being cared for in the Kingston kennel, police said.
