LOUISIANA -- Monroe police have arrested a woman accused of mistreating her dogs.
The News-Star reports 34-year-old Denita Sellers was booked Thursday into Ouachita Correctional Center on two charges of cruelty to animals and a charge of aggravated cruelty.
According to an arrest affidavit, police were called to Sellers' residence at of 1306 Alabama St., Monroe, in reference to the mistreatment of animals.
When police arrived, they found three pit bulls in the backyard and determined one had been beaten and starved. One dog was chained up, had knots on its head and police said the chain was digging into the dog's neck. Officers said the dogs had open, bloody wounds.
The report stated the dogs had no food or water and one had a broken hip. Police say two of the dogs were taken to a veterinarian.
Sellers' neighbors told police they had seen the dogs beaten with boards and pipes. The report stated one pen was determined to be used for dog fighting.
Sellers' previous arrests include battery and attempted second-degree murder. Bond was not set. It was unclear whether Sellers has an attorney.
